gconf-editor update

Today i took some time to finish the port of gconf-editor to the Maemo platform. This port was mainly done to help the guys working on Canola to set up the application preferences in an easy and straightforward way.

Gconf-editor is an extremely useful application, but it is not recommended to users that don't know what it is all about. So be careful while changing the configuration values. You've been warned. :)

So thanks to Andrunko for the initial debian package and Osvaldo who uploaded the packages to the extras repository. I'll create the entries in the new maemo application catalog page, but if you can't wait for it, the links for the .install files are the following:

The version is 2.16.0, and I still have to spend some more time on it to polish the patch and submit it to the main tree. But anyway, the source packages are also in the repository.

Finally, there go the screenshots:

  • Running on 770

  • Running on N800

I have problems to install it on N770 with OS 2006.3.
I suppose that it depends on libraries of OS 2007

Thanks

Hi,

You shouldn't have problems installing it in your 770. I've created two different versions, one for 770 and the other for N800. Could you please check what is happening in the application manager log?

I have a similar problem. I already have installed gconf-editor.

But if I have the repository 'mistral extras' activated there are a gconf-editor update that depends on libraries of OS2007.

I have investigated a bit and the command 'apt-cache showpkg gconf-editor' obtains them following:

'mistral extras and scirocco extras activated':
gconf-log

'only scirocco extras activated':
gconf-log2

'only mistral extras activated':
gconf-log3

It looks like a error in mistral repository, but with the direct link it works perfectly (gconf-editor).

Hi, I recently stumbled across your gconf-editor. I liked it at first sight because it would ease the setup for WLANs like I described it here. The only drawback is, that the only value I can't change is the essential list of byte values needed for the WLAN Hex Key workaround. Any chance you can fix that?

Is this maybe only available for the arm target? I can't see to install it via apt-get in my i386 bora target in scratchbox, though I have extras in my sources.list.

Hi Murray,

I have not uploaded the i386 packages to the maemo extras repository. You'll have to build it from the sources wich are available in the repo. A simple

apt-get source gconf-editor

command should be enough.

Unfortunately no, it doesn't work:

It would be really nice if you could upload i386 packages so we can use this in scratchbox. Of course, I wish we had auto-builds for the different platforms like debian/ubuntu.

Hi Murray,

I see the problem now. The .orig.tar.gz file was not included in the .changes file during the package creation process. I forgot to call dpkg-buildpackage using the "-sa" option. I'm working to fix this issue right now. Sorry for that.

About the auto build system we're working on something like this at this very moment. You can check it here:
